Emily Lensmire, a native of Reedsville, Wis., is the head coach of the women's volleyball team at Silver Lake College. Her first season at the helm was 2015-2016.
"One reason I find this collegiate level of play challenging yet so rewarding is while I was in college, I coached volleyball for the Green Lake/Princeton Middle School," she said. "Having to go back to the basics and teach the fundamentals for girls that have never played before really honed in my skills, and reminds me that it all starts with the basics. Without the basics and focus on the court, a team cannot be successful."
Coach Lensmire said she loves watching student-athletes progress and achieve their goals.
"While at Reedsville High School, Coach Hanson really inspired me to be the best player on the court," she said. "I take that same passion that she has out on the court with me ever since. Coach Hanson still inspires me to push players beyond what they think they can do."
Coach Lensmire began playing volleyball in seventh grade and continued all the way through her first year of college.
She graduated from Ripon College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management, with an emphasis on entrepreneurship. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Organizational Development from Silver Lake College.
Coach Lensmire enjoys spending time with her husband (Sam), working on their families' dairy farms, hunting and fishing.
Michaela Newberry, a native of Iron Mountain, Mich., is in her first season as the assistant coach of the Silver Lake College women's volleyball team.
Coach Newberry has been involved with volleyball for most of her life (her mother, Jeanne, has been a high school varsity volleyball coach for two decades). She played volleyball throughout middle school and high school, and she went on to help her mother during camps and practices.
"I enjoy the energy the sport brings," Coach Newberry said about volleyball. "So much excitement goes on when you are a part of watching a good play happen."
In high school, Coach Newberry was named to the All Region Team and All Conference Team.
"I look forward to coaching at Silver Lake College, because I believe I have a lot of knowledge that would help players reach their athletic potential and I hope to share the love of the game with them," she said.
Coach Newberry received her undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in counseling from Lake Superior State University (where she was also a standout student-athlete), and she's pursuing a master's degree in education counseling. Her hobbies include running, swimming, kayaking and painting.
